This is a great idea! My kitchen is currently non-functional, mid-reno, but SOON, it will be back up and running, and now you've given me an excuse to put a sketchbook in there! (I have a weekly long train ride, and have taken to bringing along some non-messy materials and a sketchbook, and doing collage/drawing—makes my whole day happier anticipating the return-trip!) Happy sketching :)) PS - try Staedtler 12B…soft as can be…
I decided last summer that I wanted to get better at drawing, so I joined our local arts alliance and started in a Technique In Drawing class. My teacher is great. I’ve learned so much and have made several new acquaintances. Drawing was always something I used to draw gestures to help me develop ideas then later to sketch on canvas or watercolor paper. I now enjoy drawing and do a lot more of it for fun. I love your idea of having a sketchbook handy to do quick sketches. I always have a sketchbook or two next to my lounge chair for quick sketching or gestures and spend more time drawing at night, rather than scrolling through YouTube. I like this sketch you did. It reminds me of my mom. Enjoy your quick sketching.
I took a drawing class a few years ago and learned so much. Even though it isn't my first love, I'm very glad that I did it. There is a life drawing group nearby and one of these days I'm going to try that. I've never drawn a live model before.

Kitchen reno is exciting! I think train sketching sounds like a great way to pass the time. Thanks for the pencil recommendation. I'll try it!
I'm actually enjoying the process — so many details the workers are dealing with; it is instructive!

Aw, I love that it reminds you of your mom. 💕

You should try it. My teacher holds a live drawing class every week, which I may go to at some point.
We both should try it! Maybe a goal for 2026.
